"Dim The Lights" is the fourth single from English band Jetfire's debut self titled studio album. The single features rap vocals from singer Coral Harris. The single was released on 25 November 2013 via Digital Download and physical release through Next Generation Records. The song was chosen as the fourth single after being voted the most popular unreleased track on the album. The song received mostly positive reviews from pop music critics. Upon it's release, "Dim The Lights" charted at #1 on the UK Singles Chart, giving Jetfire their second UK chart topper, and Coral her third. The song was Coral's last appearance on the charts for four years.

Background[edit | edit source]

The song was first available in July 2012, after appearing as the seventh track on the bands debut album. On working with Coral Harris on the track, band member Joey Nicholson stated "she's our label boss and she's very hands on. She came down to the studio one day to listen to our material, and she felt an instant connection to 'Dim The Lights'. She ended up taking the track to her studio and contacted us two weeks later with the updated version, featuring her rap on it. We were all blown away."

The band and label were unable to decide on a fourth single from the album, so a poll was put on the bands official website, allowing fans to vote which track should be released between "Save Our Relationship", "Toast To The Girl", "Dim The Lights" and "The Best Memories". With a massive 55.56% of the vote, "Dim The Lights" got the most votes, and was chosen as the next single.

Release and reception[edit | edit source]

Robert Copsey from Digital Spy awarded it 4 stars and said: "'Dim The Lights' might be a sentimental number about being in love, but with Coral's feisty rap vocals, Jetfire's trademark pop/rock choonage and some deceptively catchy "Eh Eh"s, the urge to bound around the nearest open space for three minutes and 45 seconds is near-irresistible." Iain Moffatt from BBC Music said that: "even the perfectly serviceable of-the-moment pop of Dim The Lights are little preparation for the delights in store here". The Entertainment Focus review said that: "Across the record the band takes anthemic pop on the corking Dim The Lights". Johnny Dee from Virgin Media said: "A love song that packs a punch isn't something you hear everyday, but that's exactly what you get with "Dim The Lights" which sees the band teaming up with Coral Harris to good effect." Jack Foley from Indie London said that: "Dim The Lights showing what can be achieved when they fuse pop rock with dance-pop and combine rap vocals with Coral Harris".

Music Video[edit | edit source]

The video is due to premiere on Thursday 21 November 2013. On 20 November, two behind the scene images were released, showing band member Aaron Dixon and Coral Harris as vampires.

The video premiered on MTV on 25 November 2013. The video begins in a dark room, with a single flickering light in one corner. Aaron is shown standing in the darkness, as an attractive girl is stood at the other side of the room. He sings to her as they slowly walk through the darkness towards one another. As they reach one another, and are stood face to face, the lights suddenly dim, and flicker on for only a split second, as the girl is shown sinking her vampire teeth into Aaron.

The next scene shows the band performing on stage to a crowd filled with girls who are rocking out to the bands show. Joey, Mikey and Sean look towards Aaron suddenly, and notice his face has become has vampire one, as he punches the electricity pack on the wall causing the lights to go off. Suddenly the girls in the crowd are all shown to be vampires too, as they dive onto the stage and head towards the boys. Mikey is dragged into the crowd of vamps as Joey and Sean escape through the fire exit.

Joey and Sean are shown in the next scene running down a dark, scary alleyway, as they attempt to get out the building. They reach an elevator and press the button waiting for the lift to arrive. As the lift travels to them, it's shown inside that Coral Harris is inside it with several boys around her. She raps her verse as she also sinks her vampire teeth into each of the boys one by one. As the lift opens up for Joey and Sean, they are shown walking inside with Coral, unaware she's also a vampire.

The final scene shows the boys and Coral performing on a rooftop, all five of them with vampire faces. As the song ends, the video dims out.
