The Sleazy Sisters is a British pop group, they first appeared on URAPS Idol 8 and went on to win the competition. They are known for the sixties-styled girl group line up and dance routines, and their hit singles "Marilyn Monroe In A Polly Pocket" and "New Attitude".

Formation[edit | edit source]

The Sleazy Sisters were formed in 2005, when classmates Tracy Robinson and Jamie Hudson found the same interests in singing, and their love for the particular genre of music - the sixties pop music. After seeing the advertisement on the eighth season of URAPS Idol, the girls were keen to join and is hopeful to get a recording contract.

Before entering the competition; Tracy's father, Lloyd Robinson, told the girls that the competition will be tough for them, as they were amateurs. Robinson, who owns a bar at East Sussex, told the girls he had a part-time waitress working at the pub, by the name of Scarlett Summers. Scarlett was a trained musician and Lloyd thinks she will be a good fit.

After the girls hook up with Summers, the group auditioned for the show and the rest was history.

On March 12 2007, the girls released their winning single "Like The Rain", written by Phoenix, which debut at #6, the single sold over 90,000 copies in total. It also plays a part to promote the Uraps Idol 8 'Greatest Moments' album which featured all the Top 12 finalists of the show. The album peak at #8 on the album charts.

In May 2007, the girls announced that they will be releasing their debut album "Polka Dots & Strawberry Pops" on 18 June, followed by their second single "Marilyn Monroe In A Polly Pocket". The girls chosen producers Feisty Brothers, whom produced 10 out of 11 tracks from the album, described the album as 'one of pop's finest moment'. The album was a huge affair - they received positive reviews from NME and The Guardian for 'proving audience wrong for not just being another reality TV pop group'.

Lead singer Scarlett Summers said, "This is probably one of the best works in pop music these days. We have got an amazing producer who does all the mixing and stuff, we wrote our own songs, the album is a good old throwback to those of sixties girl groups. Its very different from what you hear on the radio these days". Both the album and single hit #1 on both the singles and album charts.

In July 2007, the girls received news that they were nominated for 3 awards on Urapopstar Awards 14 for "Best Newcomer", "Best Group" and later on, winning the "Best Songwriter" award. Shortly after, released their third single "Songs On The Radio", another ditty catchy pop tune which debut at #1.

In November 2007, the girls announced they will be releasing the double A side "Long Live The Pinocchio/Boy Eyeliner" on December 17, competing for the Christmas number one. Due to their commitment in releasing their debut album in the US, both the single and a planned re-release of the album was subsequently canceled. The album later won the "Best Album" award at Urapopstar Awards 15.

2008: We Need A Controversy[edit | edit source]

In early April 2008, the group announced their second album "We Need A Controversy" will be released along with the lead single "New Attitude". Instead of using their trademark 60s sound from the last album, the girls decided to re-invent themselves and recorded an album with a 80s disco-pop influenced sound. Lead singer Scarlett Summers told NME that its a mix between "Donna Summer, Belinda Carlisle and Tiffany" - a sound of the one of the few biggest disco-genre artists of the 70s and 80s. The album also showcase the girls writing talent, it being stronger both lyrically and musically.

Working with the Feisty Brothers yet again, the 13-track album and the single both topped the charts. The girls follow up with their second single, "We Need A Controversy", which reached #3 on the charts.

2008-present: Hiatus[edit | edit source]

After 'Controversy' underperformed on the charts, rumours surfaced that the group has split up. No news of the girls were heard of since then. The girls reunited in 2009 for the charity single Play The Game, despite reports of Summers allegedly accuse organizer and label boss Romo for not including the girls for a solo part. Months later, the girls were nominated for Best Alternative Pop and Best Banner for New Attitude at Urapopstar Awards 16.

In 2010, there was renewed interest in the group after urban star Paulo Araujo hired the group's producers Feisty Brothers for Araujo's fourth album. In a matter of days time, old demos from the group started to surface, which was legally sold to Dakota Rain for Rain's second album. However, the future of the group remains uncertain.
