Songs Information[edit | edit source]
"My Final Mission" was one of several exclusively-penned tracks for Ana Simpson's comeback album Intensive Ground. The song was one of the first tracks to be recorded by Simpson and among a total of 5 candidates considered for the album's lead single. Although it lost in favor of "Love Is A Game"/"Your Guardian," Simpson has described the ballad as one of her personal favorites on the album. "I instantly fell in love with the song, because it has a very special atmosphere and meaning to me. It's carrying off, no matter where you are," Simpson told Rolling Stone.
First drafts of a melody for "Defeated" were already in existence in 2009 with Ana, who also wrote the vocal melody, intensifying work on the track in November 2009. The song was fully produced and provided with its final lyrics, who chronicle the aftermaths of an unforgettable life. The song premiered on BBC Radio One on 2 February 2010. The song is not featured on Simpson's second studio album, as it was recorded for a possible Singles Collection album.
Reception[edit | edit source]
One of the first reviews of the single was by website Digital Spy who gave "My Final Mission" 4 out of 5 stars saying: "A gentle, sweeping lament that lets Ana sprinkle her extra-tight harmonies over plinky-plonky keys". Digital Spy gave "Defeated" a 4 out of 5 stars as well saying: "it's a stately piano ballad with an explosive chorus hook and lashings of emotion. Ana shows real artistic growth here...The song is sad but optimistic, essentially Seize The Day – is realized sensitively and elegantly".

My Final Mission[edit | edit source]
The international version of the video shows Simpson in a house packing her stuff ready to move, she walks around the house looking at boxes and going through pictures. Scenes from Simpson's My Final Mission Tour is also seen throughout the video.
The UK version, a young girl is seen watching her parents having a fight, while clips are shown of Ana in a open field singing. The father reluctantly leaves the house and waves goodbye to the little girl. Nobody in the family seems to care about the girl, her mother is upset over her husband leaving and her dad is no longer in the house. In the middle of the night the girl is seen walking into a bathroom and fainting, when the mother finds her daughter unconscious on the floor she calls 911. The little girl is seen in a hospital with both of her parents by her side. The doctor comes in to deliver some bad news to the parents, meanwhile Simpson walks into the hospital room and talks to the little girl. Being the little girls guarding angel, nobody but the girl is able to see Simpson. The video ends with Simpson exiting the little girl's hospital room, as her parents walk in. As Simpson walks in the hallways of the hospital, angel wings are seen in her shadow. Scene changes and it shows Simpson laying in the grass watching the full moon, as the video fades black with the saying "IT'S NOT THE END, THIS IS A BRAND NEW BEGINNING...", bellow that it says "...To Be Continued"
Defeated[edit | edit source]
The video is a continuation of "My Final Mission". It starts with an angel standing in the beach watching the sun set. The scene changes and it shows a little girl with scarf over her head walking in a hospitals corridor. Another scene shows the little girl’s mother shaving her head, as she looks in the mirror Simpson appears behind the little girl, but no one is able to see her reflection in the mirror. Another shot shows the girl receiving chemotherapy and struggling to cope with her terminal cancer. The final scene shows the little girl watching the sun set in the beach, Simpson comes and stands next to the girl as angel wings are seen in both Simpson and the little girl’s silhouette. As the sun sets the little girl fades away, soon after Simpson fades away. The camera moves up looking to the dark sky as two shooting stars pass by.
