Background[edit | edit source]

Following a three-year hiatus, Alesha released her self-titled ninth studio album in 2014. The album soon became the best-selling release of Alesha's career, spawning hugely successful hits like "Japan", "Opulence"/"Unbeknownst" (with Paulo Araujo) and "Number One" (which sold over 800,000 copies). To support the LP, Alesha embarked on the Alesha: Renaissance Live tour, reaching stadiums and arenas around the world. On January 10, 2015, it was announced that Alesha would headline Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City. On March 3, 2015, Alesha fainted during a concert in Bogota, Colombia and was hospitalized for exhaustion. She was forced to cancel the remainder of the tour's South American dates as well as scheduled "homecoming" shows in the United Kingdom.

On March 28, Alesha confirmed a slew of festival appearances billed as the "Black Leather Festival Tour", including appearances at iconic festivals such as Bonnaroo and Glastonbury. Alesha had been approached to headline Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which takes place in April, but she declined as it felt "too early" to perform new material from her tenth studio album.
