"Don't Stop The Music" is the second single from Chase Elite's solo debut album Hunting Season. Released in late August 2011, the uptempo dance-pop song was written by Chase himself, with GoonRock responsible for the song's production. The track is noticeable for featuring a unique theme of male empowerment and charted at #3 on the singles chart.

Background[edit | edit source]

Chase revealed that "Don't Stop The Music" was one of the first tracks written for the album. In an interview with Rap-Up, Chase claimed that after he recieved "Find My Groove" he knew the standard of his album had to be high to match this, and so he set out on writing the album's "club stomper", which resulted in the creation of the song. Chase revealed the song was one of his favourites on the album, as he felt the "strong dance track stood out amongst a sea of R&B and Pop hits".

Release and reception[edit | edit source]

"Don't Stop The Music" was selected as the album's second single. Elite said there were initially five songs which were in the running for the second single but "without a doubt we had to go with this one ['Don't Stop The Music'], I just fell in love with it ... It’s definitely a club banger. You know the first time I heard it, I went insane."

The song was well received by critics who praised the collaboration of Elite and GoonRock. Robert Copsey of Digital Spy said "It looks as though Chase going to be ruling the airwaves all over again ... From the word go, it's apparent Chase means bussiness with this track, opening with him claiming "your leader Chase has arrived", this track ain't going to be forgotten in a hurry. With the first verse claiming ("Female domination on the charts right now / Well Chase has arrived lemme hear you say wow / The boy's gonna take over just you wait and see / With quite the fittie as the leader, me"), the track plunges into a pounding electro-house chorus that quite literally orders us to the dance floor and raises the levels on the ever-growing amount of love Chase has for himself ... The result isn't fresh and original, but it makes for the perfect summer tune." Robert Daw of Idolator said "Elite's new single 'Don't Stop The Music' is pure strobe-light adrenaline rush ... the use of using an upcoming and relatively unknown producer (GoonRock) gives this an original feel about it, despite it reaking of mainstream."

Fraser McAlpine awarded the song four stars, his review was neither positive nor negative. He said "Singers always like to sing about how brilliantly attractive and astonishing they are. Even if the words have a double meaning, which hints that they are merely mouthing the self-regard of a rampant egomaniac, who is laughing and rubbing his hands every time they start to sing, they don't mind. Why would they? The song mentions himself as a "fittie". That's what singers live for. [I awarded it] one extra star for the verse about the end of the world ("All these people singing 'bout the world meeting it's end / I couldn't care less I just wanna dance with a friend / But as long as we got the beat we'll dance through the destruction / The music to my ears is a form of seduction")... because it mocks other artist's using unoriginal themes, which rules." Gavin Martin of The Mirror made similar comments neither praising nor criticizing the song, instead saying it will put him "firmly in control of the dance floor". Entertainment Weekly named it "the number one summer jam of the year" whilst music station KISS 100 called it fabulous and made it their song of the week for the last week of July, 2011. A reviewer from the network said, "Don't Stop The Music is another smash [where] ... Chase is taking command!" In Fitness magazine's 100 best workout songs, "Don't Stop The Music" was named one of the ten best dance workout songs.

Music video[edit | edit source]

Chase and Amelia break up on the beach

Filming for the video to "Find My Groove" took place on 14 & 15 May 2011. The crew then continued to work together on 16 & 17 May as they filmed the video for "Don't Stop The Music", however all crew members had to sign a confidentiality contract to agree to keeping the second single a secret. It has been confirmed that love interest Amelia Clark shall return.

The video premiered at 5pm on 27 August. Just Chase's face is shown in darkness, with flashing strobelights behind. He speaks. “In this world, there are those who were born to party, and those who try to stop the music. The name is Chase Elite, and my goal is to don't stop the music.” The beat then begins.

Chase and Amelia are shown to be still very much in love. Chase has arranged for a romantic meal on the beach for the pair, where they flirt. Not long later they finish their meal and hit the waves. Suddenly Amelia see's some woman and chases after her. Amelia reaches the woman and pounces on top of her. They roll around on the ground for quite a while. Chase notices and watches for a moment (as its quite hot) and then runs up to the pair. Chase grabs Amelia and pulls her off the random woman. Amelia screams at Chase that he doesn't know what he's doing, and perhaps they shouldn't even be together. Chase looks really shocked and upset, mostly because the love of his life is wanting to break up over him pulling her of a girl. Amelia says she needs time to think about who she is and she walks away, leaving Chase just standing there.

The next scene says “the night before”. Outside Chase's london home, the doorbell rings. Chase answers it but nobody is there. Just a box, which Chase picks up and brings inside. Back in his house Chase stands in his pretty fancy hallway. He opens the box and it is shown that there are some sort of photographs inside. As Chase flicks through them, all that is shown is that Amelia is snogging somebody while they are in the middle of sexual activities. He looks up with fury on his face. He then walks into his and Amelia's bedroom. Amelia smiles at him and walks over to give him a hug. However he pushes her off and shows her the pictures. He then throws the pictures all over the bed and walks out, leaving Amelia looking stressed on her own.Chase storms out of the house and gets into a very flashy car and drives off extremelly fast. Clips of people in a club are quickly shown, jumping to the beat of the song. The next scene shows Chase in front of the strobelights he was beside at the start of the video. He sings the lyrics to the song for a bit.

Chase then arrives in a club. Known for being a fan of sunglasses, Chase removes his as he enters the club. He walks through a group of woman, who all stroke his torso as he walks past them. Chase chats to a dark haired woman at the bar, however he then leaves her to sing on stage, as everyone in the club dances around the stage. Amelia then enters the club while Chase is still on stage, and she walks through the crowd of people that were stroking Chase. More scenes of people dancing show, followed by the dark haired woman joining Chase on stage. She puts her hands on his face and moves in to kiss him, however Chase stops just before they kiss and looks next to him, where Amelia is standing. At first Amelia is shown to angry, and pushes Chase. However the girl then shows her face to Amelia and Amelia is shown to be extremelly shocked. She even puts her hands onto her head as she's in distress. The video ends as it flashes back to Chase's bed where he threw the pictures down. The pictures all start piling up on top of each other, showing Amelia having sex with someone, however it soon becomes apparent she's having sex with another woman, and the final picture shown before the video ends reveals that the woman Amelia had sex with is the same woman that Chase kissed on stage.
