"Hatin' on the Club" is a single by Caymon, featuring his older brother Jason, due to be released on February 11th 2013 as the first single from the re-release of his album Riders of the Night and the album's third single overall. The track was written by both Caymon and Jason and was produced by The Invisible Men. On February 17th 2013, the track officially charted at #8 on the Uraps singles chart, giving Caymon his 5th top ten single.
The single will be released, without Jason, in the United States on March 5th 2013. An alternate music video has been shot and will be used as the official music video for there.
Background[edit | edit source]
Fusion Records asked Caymon to go back into the studio and record new tracks for a re-release of Riders of the Night when it was clear that the album's second single "Without You" was not making an impact. Only weeks after "Without You" was released and under-performed, a new single, "Hatin' on the Club" featuring Jason, was announced. Speaking about the collaboration, Caymon said "Originally, Jason wasn't meant to be part of the song. But when I heard the final thing both me and the guys at Fusion felt it was lacking something. So I called J up and asked him to appear on it. It makes a bloody brilliant difference!"
Composition[edit | edit source]
The track is inspired by 90's pop and dance music and sounds, according to many reviews, a little more dated than songs that are dominating the charts at the moment. The verses are sung over a heavy, echoing club beat with a wonky synth building it's way up. The chorus then explodes into something a 90's rock inspired piece and features Caymon's vocals being heavily distorted with special effects and vocoders. During the middle-8, sung by Jason, the background music changes to heavy dubstep loaded with computerized special effects. The track's producers, The Invisible Men, admitted to using three different demos they had to make the final track, which explains the "everything in the kitchen sink" element to it.
Reception[edit | edit source]
Popjustice was the first to review the song. They called it "a hot mess, but a sure-fire hit" and claimed the best lyric in the song was "Grab yourself a Snickers and get yourself some nuts". The only fault they found with the song was the distorted vocals on the chorus, which they felt where "too hard to decipher".
Madison Bowes of BBC Music referred to the song as "an instant hit with the young teens who say things like "yolo" and "swag". The lyrics will probably be used in many Facebook statuses for the next few years. But putting that aside, it's a very catchy and well-produced song. The presence of Jason seems a bit random, however".

UK Version[edit | edit source]
The music video to the track, directed by Anthony Mandler (who directed the videos for "Girls" and "Without You"), premiered on 'FAMELESS' on January 30th 2013.
The video begins with Caymon walking into a house where a house party is taking place. All the guests are seen drinking, playing cards, dancing to music, making out etc. There is even a millisecond shot of two topless females making out whilst lying down on a leather couch.
Caymon flirts with a girl which is shown to make another guy very jealous. Caymon later begins kissing her on the neck, which makes the jealous guy hit the roof. He storms over and pushes Caymon away from the girl, who looks horrified. Caymon pushes this guy back and the pair get into a fight. Most of the guests start cheering and can be shown mouthing the words "fight!" over and over. The girl looks scared and upset.
Eventually, the fight stops and Caymon takes his t-shirt off, revealing a tattoo that says 'Rider' on his left shoulder, which the camera focuses on. He punches the guy in the face, grabs the girl by the hand and runs out of the house.
Jason then appears to sing his middle 8. He storms up to the jealous guy and begins singing his lyrics to him. When he finishes, he hands the guy a piece of paper which says "Call Me" and has a phone number. The guy looks disgusted and pushes Jason out of the way and storms out of the house.
Caymon and the girl now shown making out in a fogged up car, which the jealous guy is walking up to. He breaks the windscreen with a baseball bat which is the last straw for Caymon. He punches the guy yet again and takes the baseball bat from him, swinging it at his head, but misses. The pair get into yet another fist fight. When it finishes, Caymon, with a bloody nose and bruised eye, turns around to see his girl is gone. He sighs and throws the baseball bat on the ground. The two fellas walk back towards the house, heads hanging in shame.
The song has now finished and Jason is seen walking with his arm around the girl, wearing a smirk on his face.
