L'mondrea Brown (born Lemondrea Sh'quoiya Brown, June 20 1986) is an American singer best known as one third of R&B girl group Moodring.

Early life[edit | edit source]

L'mondrea was born in Buffalo, New York to parents T'mani and Toumarni Brown. She has one younger brother, G'for Brown and a twin sister, Watermelondrea Brown. Known as the both the black sheep and talent in the family, L'mondrea had a troubled upbringing and was a young offender. However she also starred lead role in almost all of her high school productions and was praised for both her singing and acting kills. Despite this, L'mondrea still found herself in trouble. By the time she was 19 she already been in jail. She was convicted of torching ex boyfriend AJ Jones' car as well as drug possession and assaulting a police officer in January 2005. She served an 18 month jail sentence for her crimes which she claimed turned her life around and made her the person she is. Determined to leave her criminal past behind her, L'mondrea moved to Manchester, UK in 2008 to live with her aunt, Tamara Brown who had moved there to study. L'mondrea got a job as a club hostess and occasionally sang in bars.

Moodring[edit | edit source]

In September 2009 she auditioned to join Moodring and got the job because of a combination of her looks, attitude and voice. She even beat singer Victoria Rios to the spot, who later found a massive amount of fame as MIDNIGHT. Since joining Moodring, L'mondrea gained a quick persona as the bad girl and is, a lot of the time, seen to not take her career seriously. After gaining a promotion deal from Cook's Chicken, L'mondrea joked about the deal and often refered to the company as Coon Chicken, stated she wanted to reclaim the racist term. This almost lost the band the deal, but L'mondrea made amends by writing and performing the company's official song, Ain't Nothin' Real But The Chicken. For more information see Moodring.

Solo Career[edit | edit source]

L'mondrea has featured as a solo artist whilst with Moodring, featuring on songs by Gingers+Jesus and Cassie Fox. In March 2011 Moodring went on hiatus, and L'mondrea embarked on a real solo venture. Her first release was a digital single A Change Gon' Come which she released for the Japanese Tsunami and Earthquake appeal on March 14, 2011. April 11, 2011 saw the buzz single from her debut album, Let's Go To War, which charted at #4. The first properly promoted single, Like A Lady dropped on May 23, 2011 and reached #2. The album, Murder, was released a week later, with co-writing credits from Kleo, Bella-May and Ama Slater. It went straight in at number one. The album was shortly followed by Proud Mary on July 4, 2011, a digital single released in America and the UK to mark Independence Day. The follow up to Like A Lady, Murder, was released on July 18, 2011 and underperformed chart-wise, stalling at #5. However it held that position for two weeks. L'mondrea featured on two singles, one released in August: You Know Me by Becca Hayworth, which also features Honey and Rise by No Little Thing, released in September. The final single from Murder was PMS which charted at #4. L'mondrea contributed a track to an Amy Winehouse tribute album, a cover of You Know I'm No Good.
L'mondrea reissued the album as a 2 disc edition which included seven new songs. I Know Who Killed Me, the first single from the re-release went straight to #1 In November 2011, however L'mondrea soon fell ill and had to put a hiatus on the project. In October 2012 she finally closed the project with Risky Chick, which also reached #1 in the charts.
