"Scream My Name" is a song by American recording artist Bella-May, released as the lead single from her first hits collection The One They All Know: The Greatest Hits. The track was produced by Fraser T Smith and features guest vocals from Brazilian singer/songwriter Paulo Araujo. The track was released on September 15th 2014, alongside the album, and charted at #4 in the United Kingdom and #9 in the United States.

Background[edit | edit source]

Bella had been teasing her "brand new single" soon after the announcement of her forthcoming hits collection. Details about the track where kept top secret and it wasn't until the announcement of the track's title on August 4th 2014 that it was revealed Paulo Araujo would be featured. Speaking about the collaboration, Bella said:

I had originally written and recorded the track in the studio with Fraser T Smith back in January. And then we re-visited it in May-ish and we decided it needed something to make it stand out, so we added the saxophone after each chorus. After that, I still felt the song was lacking something, you know? So I called up Papi and personally asked if he wanted to appear. I love his work and I love him and we've collaborated before, so I thought "Why not give the world more Paulo-May?". I'm really happy he was on board, his feature really gives the track that edge.

Composition[edit | edit source]

Scream My Name is a pop song with r'n'b influences. The song opens with an intro/chant by Bella in whisper-y vocals before a saxophone comes in. The track has an urban undertone and somewhat "freestyle" production evident in the verses. The chorus is traditional pop in every aspect and each chorus ends with a saxophone solo, compared that present in the track "Problem" by Ariana Grande and Iggy Azalea. The production is minimal during Paulo's verse, but begins to build towards the end of his segment until the track "explodes", so to speak, for it's final chorus. A "false ending" occurs where the song sounds as if it ends, there is silence for 3-4 seconds before the saxophone solo occurs, in a high energy form, one last time.
