Biography[edit | edit source]

Early life[edit | edit source]

Bellamy, the middle child of three children, was born in Houston, Texas. She was raised as a Southern Baptist. She has an older brother named Daniel and a younger sister named Valerie. Both siblings are, or have been, in the entertainment industry. Her sister Valerie did a few commercials for American television, while her brother did some minor acting for a few TV shows. Bellamy is the only in her family to pursue a music career.

Unlike her siblings, Bellamy went to private school due to personal preferences. In high school, she participated in the National Show Choir and she also did ballet. Bellamy has said that she was not interested in singing at first; she was into the dancing and acting. Bellamy only became more interested in music after a music producer watched her audition for a musical in New York City in the summer of 2006.

Early career[edit | edit source]

Bellamy returned home from New York City in the fall of 2006 determined to pursue a career in music. Prior to recording her debut album, young Bellamy searched for record labels to sign her. The young star was not successful in finding a label. Bellamy recorded a demo called "Love Life Affair" which was used as an introduction track to record labels she visited. Bellamy eventually had to move to Los Angeles, where most record labels were located. After months of hard work trying to find one, Bellamy decided to put music on hold and return to university.

In the fall of 2007, Bellamy moved to London, UK to pursue her studies in psychology. Even though she was busy with university, Bellamy decided to give another shot at looking for a record deal. In the winter of 2007, Bellamy found an independent label willing to sign her. The small deal was for an opening single only. The deal however fell through as the label went bankrupt. In 2008, Bellamy was introduced to an Alias Records' boss by a friend. At first they were reluctant to give her a shot, but they ultimately decided to give the ambitious new singer a try. Bellamy released her first single "Broken Bridge" with Alias, but was later offered a better deal by Saturdays Records.

Music career[edit | edit source]

2008-09: Strictly Confidential era[edit | edit source]

Bellamy's debut single "Broken Bridge" was released on 28 April 2008 and it proved to be a major hit in the UK. The single peaked at number two on the UK singles chart. To follow up, she decided to release an upbeat summer track titled "102 Degrees". Due to schedule conflicts, miss-communication between Bellamy and her label Alias, the single was scrapped in the UK. The song was later released in United States, where it became a minor radio hit. The original release for Bellamy's debut album, Strictly Confidential was set for June 2008 in the UK, but due to continuous issues with Alias Records, the album's release in the UK was scrapped and Bellamy returned to North America, where she scored a deal with Universal Music.
On 20 October 2008, Bellamy updated her official UK website; the update stated that she was planning to return to the UK to release her long waited second single and debut album. The second British single was "Someone Else". The song was released on 28 December 2008. The single proved to be another smash for Bellamy. It entered the UK singles chart at number-two, where it remained there for three consecutive weeks. The ladder of success continued on the airplay chart, where the song peaked at number-one for five consecutive weeks.
Bellamy released her debut album Strictly Confidential in the UK on 5 January 2009. The singer described the record as a mixture of different sounds. The album received average to positive response from critics. It entered the UK albums chart at number-one, where it topped the chart for three consecutive weeks. The album returned to number-one after Bellamy released her third single "Keepin' U Up" in March 2009. The album was re-issued on 22 June 2009. It featured Bellamy's collaboration with country singer Lindsay Belle on the track "Think Twice, Think Thrice". On 28 June 2009, the album leaped from number-nineteen to number-one. During its course on the albums chart, the album spent a total of five weeks at number-one and was certified Diamond. The success of the singles was displayed on the 2009 year-end singles chart, where "Someone Else," "Think Twice, Think Thrice" and "Keepin' U Up" charted at number-five, fourteen and fifteen respectively. The album sold a total of 1,292,306 copies and it was one of the best sellers of 2009.

2009-10: Intimate Encounters era and break[edit | edit source]

On 6 July 2009, Digital Spy reported that Bellamy had already started working on her sophomore album and was aiming for a late 2009 release. Bellamy stated that the final arrangements for the new album were in progress. Bellamy also tweeted messages about her second album, describing it as a "part-two to Strictly Confidential but more adult." On an interview with MTV USA, Bellamy said that she wanted to have a range of sounds for the new album and that she wanted to experiment with different styles of music. It was posted on Bellamy's Wikipedia page that singer Violetta DiNozzo was in the studio with her. It was revealed that DiNozzo was the first person to listen to Bellamy's new single.
On 14 August 2009, Bellamy gave Z100 Listeners in New York City a first preview of her new single "Damn Wrong About Me". On previous interviews, Bellamy said that the new single was something she had never done before. The song had an old-western feel to it, with similarities to "Not Fair" by Lily Allen and "Bullet" by Jessie James. The full song was premiered on UK's Radio 1 Chart Show on 11 October 2009. The single entered the singles chart at number-one and became Bellamy's fourth consecutive Platinum single.
To help promote the album, Saturdays Records struck a deal with iTunes to exclusively release three songs from the album before the its release. The songs chosen for the iTunes Countdown to Intimate Encounters were: "Seize the Spark" released on 20 October, "Forever's Not for Always" released on 20 October, and "Forget the Times" with Claire Kitten released on 24 October 2009. On 12 October 2009, as iTunes updated Bellamy's Countdown page, all three songs were made available to purchase before its release date. iTunes only came to notice the mistake a few hours after the page was uploaded. iTunes quickly removed the songs and uploaded them again for pre-order only. iTunes/Apple released an apology to Saturdays Records for their mistake. The album was well received by the public, it entered the albums chart at number-one, selling over 100,000 copies in its debut week. The second single, "Forever's Not for Always" was released on 22 March 2010. It peaked at number-one for two consecutive weeks and it sold over 450,000 copies, becoming the singer's best selling single at that time. To close the second album's era, Bellamy released the double-a single, "Cloud Nine" and "Never Let Go", on 23 August 2010. A week prior to the release, the album was re-issued. The re-issue returned to the albums chart at number-one, selling over 100,000 and earning Diamond status. After the singer released her double-a single, she decided to take a hiatus from music in order to be close to her family and attend university.

In the spring of 2011, Bellamy was chosen as the spokesperson for Chanel's new line of handbags. To be able to promote the handbag, Bellamy would have to embark on a world tour for press conferences and fashion show appearances. Sexuality[edit | edit source]

On 16 March 2009, rumors about Bellamy, Helena Rossi and Logan Cross being in a sexual love triangle surfaced the internet. The media posted ridiculous claims that Bellamy's split with her then-boyfriend was due to the fact that she was sleeping with both Cross and Rossi. The threesome however denied all rumors about the so-called love triangle. Days after Bellamy denied rumors about a sex triangle, Gossip Blogs posted photos of Bellamy and Rossi kissing. The press claimed that both girls were in fact lesbian lovers. The singers, outraged by the claims, denied the lesbian rumors and posted blog entries saying that they would be featured in the April issue of the magazine Rolling Stone. The cover however stirred even more controversy. The magazine's shoot depicted Elice and Helena as "lesbian", showing both girls sucking on lollipops, touching each other and getting messy with an ice cream. Bellamy and Rossi updated their official sites saying that the cover is meant to mock all the sexual rumors about them being lesbians.
On 25 October 2009, Paparazzi snap pictures of Bellamy kissing pop singer Amy Marshall, this lead to the conclusion that Bellamy was indeed lesbian. After much speculation, Bellamy updated her Twitter account with the following message: "I’d just like to clear things up, I am not a lesbian. The whole kiss was a ploy created by Marshall to get back at her girlfriend."

2011 Album release party fiasco and nude scandal[edit | edit source]

Bellamy's album release party happened on 6 June 2011, the party saw guests such as Anna Wintour, Flaming Steffy, Karl Lagerfeld, Helena Rossi among other celebrities. Prior to the party, tension between Rossi and Bellamy were high as Rossi was seen with Bellamy's ex-boyfriend Troy Rivers. Media outlets quickly jumped on the story, claiming Rossi betrayed her best friend by dating Rivers, who at the time was Bellamy's enemy. During the party, sources revealed that Bellamy kept on aggravating Rossi by making insulting jokes about the star. Both Bellamy and Rossi were seen exiting the party to talk things out, and that's when a catfight erupted. Media outlet TMZ captured video of the two cat fighting. The video, which was later posted on TMZ's official website gained more than a million views in a matter of hours. After the fight, Bellamy asked security to escort Rossi out of the party, by calling the singer "trash" and telling her not to bother speaking to her ever again. The following day, it was discovered that Bellamy cell phone and wallet were stolen at her party. The media speculated that Rossi stole her best friend's belonging in order to get back at her. On that same day, nude pictures of Bellamy leaked online. Singer’s Alesha and Paris both received the intimate pictures on their personal e-mails, which led to believe that Rossi or someone famous was behind the leak. Bellamy was the last to know about the incident, as she had lost her cell phone and was unable to speak to her PR all day. During her press conference with Chanel that day, Bellamy was humiliated by Chanel execs when they revealed to the public that the press was cancelled due to Bellamy’s nude pictures leak. The singer immediately cancelled all promotion in the UK and Europe and headed back to the United States to be with her fiancé.
On 8 June 2011, gossip and news outlets posted a list of suspects behind the leak. One of the suspects was Saturdays Records execs, who were not pleased with the singer after she had cancelled all of their booked promotion for the single with Ben Johnston. The label released a statement on the same day explaining that they had nothing to do with her leaked picture. The label however decided to cancel the release of "Scattered Echoes" in America due to negative press Bellamy was receiving. Singer and friend Ben Johnston showed support for Bellamy and spoke about Saturdays Records decision to cancel the single in North America. Ben’s sympathetic message to Bellamy caused even more drama, as Ben’s friend/lover Victor Strong claimed to have found nude pictures of Bellamy in Johnston’s cell phone. The drama escalated even more after singers Troy Rivers and Danelle Becker spoke in regards to the nude leaks that same day. Bellamy reputation tarnished even more after her PR manager tried to fix things by claiming that the allegedly woman in the nude pictures was in fact not Bellamy. The hacker went on to leak even more pictures after her PR’s announcement.
On 9 June 2011, Bellamy’s friends Flaming Steffy and Ace Reject member Nicola O'Neill revealed personal details about the singer to the media in order to try to stop further negative press. Steffy revealed to TMZ that the singer was in a bad state after she had lost a deal to become the spokesperson for an upcoming fragrance by Chanel. Steffy also revealed that she feared that Bellamy was suicidal. After speaking to Bellamy, Nicola O’Neill tried to defend the singer by asking the press to back off. O'Neill revealed to the press that Bellamy had just spit up with her fiancé. On the same day, Bellamy was seen arriving at a hotel in New York City to meet with Chanel execs. On that night, Bellamy updated her website explaining that she was indeed replaced as the spokesperson for an upcoming Chanel fragrance and also took responsibility for her nude pictures. According to the singer, the pictures were never meant to be seen by anyone.
On 10 June 2011, news outlets revealed that Bellamy had hired private investigators to track the leaker of her nude photos. Investigators were tracking e-mails sent to Paris and Alesha. Investigators were also watching security footage from Bellamy’s album release party to find out who stole the singer’s phone. A list of suspects including: Helena Rossi, Danelle Becker, Troy Rivers, Camilla Holmes, Saturdays Records Execs and Victor Strong were all under investigation. On that night, it was revealed that investigators were able to find the person responsible for the leak, but they needed more incriminating evidence to be able to seek legal closure.
After days of investigation, Bellamy's private investigators found the person responsible for the leak and had enough evidence to incriminate the individual. On 15 June 2011, CNN reported that Bellamy's PR manager was the person responsible for leaking her pictures. According to sources, her manager tried to destroy the singer's career after she decided to quit music in 2010, leaving him jobless.
