Christmas number ones are singles that are top of the singles chart in the week in which Christmas Day falls. Collaborations, novelty songs or songs with a Christmas theme have regularly been at the top of Christmas charts. Generally, Christmas week refers to the week of release prior to the Christmas charts. Traditionally the volume of record sales peaks at Christmas, with the Christmas number one being considered especially prestigious, more so than any other time of year.

History[edit | edit source]

Pop group Ace*Teens scored the first ever Christmas number one single in 2001. The following year, Sophie Ellis-Beckham and Rap's "Out of Your Mind" became the first collaboration to top the Christmas charts. In 2003, Lucreacia would be the first female solo artist to earn a Christmas number one, followed by her younger sister Nikki in 2004. It was not until 2011 that Chase Elite became the first male solo artist to reach Christmas number one.

To date, five artists have achieved more than one Christmas number one single. After her first Christmas number one in 2004, Nikki topped the charts again in 2006 alongside Jake. Jake himself would earn a second Christmas number one in 2008, alongside his spouse Yannik. Their duets album Love was the Christmas number one album. The following year, Yannik topped both the singles and albums chart again as part of his band Indigo Peak. Syd Wolfe has topped both the singles chart twice (2013 and 2014) and albums chart twice (2013 and 2016). Shell Ruin has also topped the singles chart twice (2017 and 2020).

Just five artists have topped the Christmas singles and albums charts simultaneously: Jake & Yannik in 2008, Indigo Peak in 2009, Chase Elite in 2011, Syd Wolfe in 2013, and Shell Ruin in 2017.
