"Best Friends Forever" is the first official single from Amy Marshall's fifth studio album, Broken Angel, released October 17, 2011. The single marked Amy's first proper release in nearly two years, with her last single "Game Over!" being released February 2010.
Amy describes "Best Friends Forever" as one of her most personal songs to date; its lyrics describe a friendship gone wrong, and its writing was inspired by the end of one of Amy's own friendships.
Marked by an extensive promotional campaign, "Best Friends Forever" became Amy's third #1 single upon its release, selling almost 150,000 copies in its first week, to earn the second-biggest first-week sales of the year.
Background[edit | edit source]
After plans to release a comeback single in 2011 with the Romo-penned "Black Widow Sting" fell through in February 2011, it was not clear whether Amy would return as planned with her fifth studio album. In August 2011, Amy announced she would return with the single "Best Friends Forever" on September 26, although the release date was later pushed back to October 17 to allow for more promotion.
The song is described by Amy as one of her most personal to date: "It’s about having a friend that you were so close with, but that friend ended up stabbing you in the back due to insecurities of their own even though you’ve tried to help them." It returns Amy to the pure pop sound of her early career, after experimenting with hard rock on Morbid Lullabies and electropop on Reincarnation.
Upon the song's premiere, rumors circulated the Internet that the song's subject was pop singer Ashley Esterwood, who was a friend of Amy's during her popularity in the late 2000's. Amy, however, confirmed the song describes the end of her friendship with Christina Barrymore, a New York radio DJ.
Critical reception[edit | edit source]
"Best Friends Forever" received critical acclaim upon its release, with many reviewers praising the honesty and delivery of Amy's lyrics.

Promotion[edit | edit source]
The promotion of the single has been marked by increased craziness and bitchiness in Amy's personality, but is remembered for her reclusiveness during the latter part of promotion because a whale ate her breast implants and she did not want to be seen with a flat chest.
Chart performance[edit | edit source]
"Best Friends Forever" entered the Urapopstar Downloads Charts on October 9, 2011, just a week before its release, at #10. The following week, it climbed to #2, beaten by Esmeralda Dimuzio's "Something Personal", and remained in the #2 spot the week after, blocked by Romo and Paulo Araujo's "Rinse, Rinse".
"Best Friends Forever" became Amy's third #1 single, selling 147,621 copies in its first week, earning the highest first week sales of her career, a mark she last topped with her previous single "Game Over!" to surpass a five-year personal record. The first-week success of "Best Friends Forever" also marked the second best one-week sales figure of 2011, topped only by MIDNIGHT's "Money Equals Love", which debuted at #1 with sales of 183,727 copies two months prior. To date, it has earned a silver certification.
